The idea that you can impact a healthy mood or positive emotions is powerful. As a Psychiatrist and certified life coach, patients always ask me about natural ways to maintain a healthy mood. With all of life’s obligations and hectic schedules, it’s easy to get pulled in multiple directions feeling time-pressured, overwhelmed and stressed-out. Instead of feeling helpless, recognize your current emotional state and take effective action to help support a good mood naturally.
Get Moving. Exercising releases endorphins, which help you feel better. If you can’t exercise outdoors, heading to the gym or working out at home with DVDs and hand weights can benefit your mood and your energy. Another way to get moving is to tackle some of those indoor home improvement projects you’ve been meaning to get to. Cleaning out the closets, painting a room or rearranging some furniture will burn a few calories and make you feel better about getting something accomplished.
Eat for Energy. All those delicious comfort foods may drain your energy and can end up packing the pounds on you., High-sugar and high-fat foods may be temporary mood-pleasers, but they bring an energy crash that’s just not worth it. Start off the day with some whole grains and lean protein for longer-lasting energy. Drink plenty of water and enjoy lots of fruits and vegetables.
Supplement Smarts. In addition to exercise and healthy eating, you may want to consider a supplement, such as Nature Made SAM-e Complete*, to help support a healthy mood. SAM-e (S-adenosyl-methionine) is a naturally occurring compound that is found throughout the body and SAM-e tends to decline as people get older or are consuming a poor diet. Certain groups of people, including those with low mood, tend to have lower levels of SAM-e in their bodies. Nature Made SAM-e Complete replenishes SAM-e in the body and helps to naturally support a healthy mood. SAM-e has been shown to work in as little as 7 to 14 days when taken daily as directed†.
Don’t Go It Alone. Connecting with other people is one of the best ways to fight off the blues. Spend time with family members or share laughs with close friends. By combining some meaningful face-time with a brisk walk or a healthy meal — you’ll be amazed at how much better you feel.
Maintain a Positive Attitude. How you approach a situation is key. Being optimistic or having hope and a sense of purpose are associated with a higher quality of life and overall physical and mental well-being. Eliminate negative self-talk and doubts by being aware of your resources, strengths and values. Reframe unconstructive thinking simply by asking yourself, “What’s another way to look at it?” Focus on the positive and incorporate these tips into your daily routine. You can achieve and maintain a healthy mood, naturally.
*Complete because studies have shown that SAM-e helps support a healthy mood & joint comfort.
